ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router

If you want to enjoy the internet among all of your devices, you need to have a router. But, with so many router options available, how will you be able to choose?

Today, we’re going to take a look at one of Asus’ routers. Asus has been the pioneer in graphics cards and motherboards, but do they also pioneer in routers? We’ll find out.

We are going to take a closer look at the ASUS RT-AC66U Dual Band Wireless Router. This is a $140 router that has all the features you could want on a budget router.

What are its reported features? Here it is:

  • 5th generation 802.11ac chipset gives you concurrent dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz for up to super-fast 1.75Gbps
  • Gigabit Ethernet ports for the fastest, most reliable internet performance
  • AiRadar optimizes wireless coverage with detachable high-powered antennas
  • Enjoy the ASUSWRT dashboard UI for 3 steps easy setup, signal monitoring, and network application control
  • File sharing, printer sharing, and 3G sharing via two multi-functional built-in USB ports

The Asus RT-AC66U has a set of three antennas for better signal coverage. It is quite frustrating to have any deadzones in the house, or zones where you don’t get any WiFi signal.

It has 4 Gigabit LAN ports if you want to wire multiple computers or laptops for better speed. It sports a matte black finish which is good because glossy finishes invite unwanted fingerprints on the router, and it may become unappealing to look at.

What is cool about the Asus RT-AC66U is that it can be used as a Router, an access point, or even a wireless bridge! Other routers do not have this feature, so this is truly an Ace on the Asus Router. Well done Asus!

The Asus RT-AC66U also has USB 2.0 ports so that you can share printers and other devices throughout your network.

This router is very easy to setup. When you enter its GUI, you will have the access to change the SSID, provide a password (which by the way, does not come with a password by default), and change a few other key things depending on your needs.

As much as performance is concerned, the Asus RT-AC66U performs really well as it can broadcast WiFI speeds of up to 10GBps. It is one of the only routers at this price point that can do that.

How about the reviews? Let’s look at some of them:

Finn: “Tried all of the flagships I think before settling on this one. Flawless, full featured, and those features are actually well thought out and WORK, rather than just being enough to squeak by for marketing. Good speed on the USB3 storage, decent FTP server in a pinch (though it only allows directories to be created under /SP_UFD_U3/…), no issues setting up with dynamic DNS or port forwarding.”

Ken: “Probably the best UI and most functions of any consumer router. I have probably used more than 15 or 20 of them from all of the major mfrs and some of the less known ones, and this one has the most useful and easy to navigate UI. I haven’t measured performance, but I haven’t noticed any problems that indicate it is slow.”

The Asus RT-AC66U provides a lot of features for the price of only $140. If you want to have a very good router, definitely choose this one.
